Buyer safety

Free doesn't mean unsafe

A $0-entry marketplace attracts bad actors, so every listing passes an automated validation loop before it goes live.

Tier 1

Telecom verification

Accounts are created with an SMS one-time code to a real NZ mobile (+64 21/22/27/28). VoIP, virtual and overseas numbers are rejected by carrier lookup, and one number equals one account.

Tier 2

Mandatory plate validation

You can't type a spec sheet here. The plate is the only vehicle input, and the registry fills the rest. Cancelled, stolen or non-existent plates terminate the listing and flag the account for review.

Tier 3

Price floor & geofencing

Prices more than 35% under the rolling market median for that make/model/year go into Pending Verification for a human to check. Listings claiming an NZ location while posted from a known offshore proxy, VPN or datacenter IP are held for moderation before they can reach buyers.

Tier 4

Comms integrity

Chat is scanned for the classic off-platform pivot — WhatsApp, Viber, offshore banking terms — and those messages are masked. Every photo is watermarked server-side so it can't be reused on a scam site.

Your own checklist

  • · Never pay a holding deposit before you've seen the car in person.
  • · Match the seller's driver licence name to the registered owner.
  • · Confirm a current WOF and check for money owing on the PPSR.
  • · Keep every conversation inside NewRide so we can act on it.

Security alert

SECURITY ALERT: Never pay a holding deposit via bank transfer or Western Union before inspecting the vehicle, verifying the owner's driver licence, and confirming a current WOF.

Every uploaded photo is watermarked with the listing ID and timestamp before publication.
